A Look Back at the Real Housewives of New York City Highlights of This Year

This has been a huge year for me. I have a lot to be grateful for this season with Bravo and the milestones are sweet indeed. I have been very focused and I’m proud of my accomplishments.

Heres a look back at all that I did this past season.

I received an NY State Citation for my entrepreneurial lifestyle brand, use of media and philanthropic endeavors.

The cast of The Real Housewives of New York City at the season 6 premiere party which was thrown by Team Sonja.

I was thrilled that Andy invited me to come to Austin, Texas for the SXSW Watch What Happens Live special.  I performed my Caburlesque and of course “kept it weird in Austin”.

Letting Aviva know what all the girls had to say about her while in Montana. Gearing up for leg gate at my Team Sonja “Attitude of Gratitude Party” at Le Cirque which was reality TV history.

On the finale night #TeamSonja won the Mazel of the Day on WWHL with Andy Cohen.

Had a fantastic time brushing up my acting and comedy skills starring in the Alexander Wang short as Amanda the high powered publicist to Chris Kattan aka Mango the legendary SNL star.

Ramona and I weathered the season.

Threw THE cast after party at Jamie’s Place which was attended by all my Co-stars, all of Team Sonja, Prince Borghese, and Carmen Carrera.

Was one of the five housewives chosen to be a part of the NBC Upfront billboard.

Andy Cohen requested Lisa Vanderpump and me to be at the first wedding he officiated on WWHL.

John Oliver specifically requested me to be on Watch What Happens Live with him for Andy Cohen’s five year Anniversary!

Was a guest star for NCC Media at The Morgan Library with Barry Weiss of Storage Wars and Dean Norris of Breaking Bad

Was honored to be in the Summer by Bravo Commercial! Pictured here with Lisa Vanderpump. Had a blast together.

Appeared on Bethenny along with Countess LuAnn for a mini RHONY reunion.

Made my second appearance on Bethenny. Discussed the Ten Commandments of Girlfriends with Alycia Cooper, Renee Graziano, and Coco Austin.

Was a presenter on VH1’s Gossip Table at The Gossie Awards.

At The NCC Media Cable Upfront Showcase with “Tig” of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Kim Coates

Back to my Caburlesque performance as seen on RHONY

Thank you for watching and holding my hand the whole season.
I couldn’t have done it with out you.
Here are some fun Sonjaisms to leave you with and a link to my interview with Economist Magazine at Nasdaq with the Deputy Chair discussing my businesses.

Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer hit the town ahead of Real housewives of New York City Season 6 premiere

The premiere of The Real Housewives of New York might be weeks away but I’ve still got to catch up with my girl! Ramona and I enjoyed a wonderful evening out recently at fellow restaurateur David Burke’s renowned restaurant David Burke at Bloomingdale’s. In true Frick n’ Frack style we enjoyed a glass or two of Ramona Singer Pinot Grigio and I got to catch up with my dear friend “Official” Hank Stampfl of Speakeasy Moderne.

Above: Sonja pictured with Ramona Singer, restaurateur David Burke and Speakeasy Moderne’s Hank Stampfl. Photo credit Andrew Werner.

You can catch me alongside Hank, dancers and actors in a show co-produced by Sonja in the City where I performed a sing song Cabralesque skit that I wrote and produced in the spirit of Cabaret and Burlesque for David Kilmnick’s Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) GLBT youth center in Season 6 of RHONY. You can expect to see me involved in producing and writing more projects in the near future – watch this space!

Sonja Morgan Honored With New York State Assembly Citation & Behind The Scenes RHONY Filming

Sonja was recently honored by Inspired In New York for her accomplishments and contributions in the field of media, arts, entertainment, business and philanthropy. Organized by the wonderful Von Boozier Twins VBTE Events (Sonja In The City took a rest!), the evening took place at the chic venue The Griffin in the West Village.

She received the proclamation from the State of New York which says: “a great state is only as great as those persons who give exemplary service to their community and society, whether through keen business strategies, through unique in their professional or other endeavors or simply through a lifetime of good citizenry.”

Ms Morgan is honored as a “business role model, who approached plans conservatively in order to maximize her final value, adds sensibility to her brands and proves time after time that you can achieve great style while still saving time and money.” Further citing her Philanthropy it states: ” a long-time supporter of the arts, she has been lauded for her philanthropic achievements, dedicated time and money to helping LGBT Youth and sits on many boards and foundations whose efforts vastly improve the lives of New Yorkers every day.”

The award cited her personal achievement for her contributions as an innovator and trendsetter in the arts, media and entertainment industries. Sonja was happy to have her dear friends, The Fabulous Beekman Boys – Dr. Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell – who she considers to be achievers of same, present her with the award.

Ms. Morgan threw a Sonja In The City engagement party shorty for Brent and Josh after MENY (Marriage Equality New York) passed. They recently tied the knot in Upstate NY where they film their show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, which airs on Planet Green. The boys gave a lovely speech about being neighbors in Manhattan with Sonja, their friendship, love of tradition, fabulous escapades, and their memories of cooking together which was very moving to all. Even Phillip Bloch, stylist to John Travolta and Halle Berry, showed up to support his friend Sonja. He and Sonja are fellow crusaders for the cure for HIV/AIDS.

It was a wonderful evening and Sonja said she was delighted that so many of her good friends came to support her on this very special occasion. She was joined by fellow Real Housewives of New York City co-stars Ramona Singer, Countess LuAnn deLesseps, Aviva Drescher and Heather Thomson.

EXCLUSIVE! Behind the scenes of the Real Housewives of New York in Montana

Behind the scenes of the Real Housewives of New York Season 6 vacation to Montana

For my special readers, I’ve included the full unedited untampered with video of my sing-song skit that I personally wrote for the charity which I call “Cabralesque“! The event was in support of spreading awareness of the launch of David Kilmnick’s Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) center in Long Island.

Sonja Morgan performs her Caburlesque at a Hamptons LIGALY Benefit and talks of taking the show to Broadway

Sonja Morgan performed her hotly anticipated Caburlesque at a special charity benefit at the East Hampton Studio alongside cabaret performers Speakeasy Moderne on Friday June 14. Beside over 40 Broadway singers, dancers and actors Sonja performed a special skit in the spirit of Cabaret which she both wrote and produced especially for the event. Co-hosted by Sonja’s event company Sonja In The City, Steve Carl’s Carlyle Off The Green, Michael Wudyka of East Hampton Studio and “Official” Hank Stampfl of Speakeasy Moderne the night was to benefit David Kilmnick’s Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) GLBT youth center.

The audience whooped and cheered to Sonja’s performance which contained some witty and risqué lines such as: “Just ’cause I married JPM, you thought this pucker was lined with gold & thought I’d be left holding the bag. But… this bank is closed!” And: ‘I wanna leave the juice joint at 2 and wake up with a 10, not wake up at 10 with a 2 !”

Above: Sonja rehearses her skit before the show. Click here to watch another of Sonja’s performances on WWHL with Andy Cohen!

Over 500 people were there for the show, including Real Housewives stars Carole Radziwill, Aviva Drescher, Countess LuAnn De Lesseps and Heather Thompson who got into the spirit of speakeasy by donning pearls and Twenties inspired styles in support of their cast mate. Also in attendance was producer Arlene Lazare, a good friend of both Sonja and Cabaret legend Liza Minelli.

Describing her motivation to perform Sonja says: “I’m telling my story because I do feel other people’s pain and I enjoy making people forget their troubles even if it’s just for a short time with my self-deprecating humor. I can laugh at myself.”

Getting a style that was befitting the event was crucial. As Sonja explains: “the look was to be Vaudeville a la Moulin Rouge. I think we achieved that. I had my friend, drag queen Adriana La Glam help me with that and Dex my make-up artist portrayed that brilliantly. If it’s another way that I can bring attention to my philanthropic endeavors I’m going to use it.

Above: Backstage Sonja gets ready with make-up artist Dex.

It was another successful event that Sonja in the City has hosted for charity. In the past the event company has also benefited charities close to Sonja’s heart such as the Rusk Pediatric Centre.

Remarking on the audience’s reaction to the show, Sonja said: Everyone said they enjoyed themselves. Even my cast mates! Can you imagine? Even they had only kind words. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Supporting the arts and LIGALY Youth Center is right up my alley and I personally need the creative outlet. It’s in my DNA.

Above: Sonja is a passionate supporter of LGBT causes.

When asked to comment on some of the negative press Sonja remarked: “Any comments made about me personally by people who don’t know me are directed at an image. Nothing more. If that makes someone feel better and it quells their pain for a short time then so be it. That’s part of being in the entertainment industry. I have to rise above that.”

Sonja says it would be her dream to take this show to Broadway/off Broadway but the bright lights of Vegas are calling too! After being invited to perform at XL in New York at The Out Hotel she is always looking for an excuse to visit casino bigwig friends and perform in Sin City, and has had previous offers. Sonja has been performing her productions impromptu at friends homes and at charity events for years and enjoys entertaining in general.

While Sonja draws inspiration from Cabaret vocabulary and Thirties slang she is also drawn to legendary performers with showmanship and style for further inspiration: “ I loved watching Eartha Kitt sing and Woody Allen play his sax at the Carlyle. I adore Gianni Russo at The Four Seasons. Deana Martin at The Regency. Lady Bunny! Hello Dolly. Little Edie of Grey Gardens. Mae West. Gypsy Lee Rose. There is nothing like show business! My idols are strong independent saavy women with passion who know how to work with what they have! Chanel, Diana Vreeland, Julia Child and Wallis Simpson to name a few!”
